When Facebook first came out I remember telling myself and my friends, " I would never get one!" Then, a few months later I fell into the trap. I was so anti social networking because I have always heard negative things about it. I have found that Facebook is only a bad thing when you make it a bad thing. I use it for personal use and for my two teams that I coach it is a great and useful tool to expand our fan base.
Since I coach high school females drama comes along with social networking and them. I have had to have meetings with them about what is appropriate and what is not. One year, I even had to ban the entire team from the use of social networking because it got so bad. The bickering was not even between the team itself, it was between a few girls and another school and it was pointless to have them argue and put it out in the open for everyone to see.
I think social networking in the classroom has really made it easier for students to have access to class discussions. I know the article had talked about blackboard vs. facebook and to me I would pick facebook because it gives alerts. I have not used blackboard in a couple years but I know then, there were not any alerts.
